Adelaide – Alice Springs

There are different ways to reach Alice Springs from Adelaide. Yes, you can fly, take the Greyhound or rent a car and self-drive. But there’s another more romantic option, one that gives you the same feeling of being on a journey as a road trip and that still covers the distance faster: the Ghan train.

The Ghan is one of those institutions that reminds of long bygone days, when pioneers crossed the Australian desert on camels. Guess which mode of travel we chose ;-)
Travelling at about 50 kilometers per hour, it takes 26 hours to reach Alice Springs.

The scenery that glides by is amazing. The landscape slowly changes to red desert, dotted with salt lakes that seem like mirages in the distance; a lone tree appears.
